Royston Animal Welfare is a charity registered in England and Wales (charity no. 1064870).
RAW take your privacy seriously. We are committed to protecting your personal information. This policy sets out how we use the information you provide us with in order to help us continue our work in animal welfare.
The Law on Data Protection or General Data Protection Regulation becomes enforceable on 25th May 2018. The GDPR states that personal data can only be processed if there is a legal ground to do so. Activities like collecting, storing and using personal information would fall into the GDPR’s definition of processing. The GDPR provides six legal grounds under which personal information can be processed in a way that is lawful. For the processing to be permitted by law, at least one of the legal grounds must apply.
The two legal grounds that are most relevant to RAW's use of your personal information are:
Consent
Legitimate Interest
Consent
RAW will always ask for your consent before we send you newsletters sponsor scheme letters or fundraising activities via email or letters. If you choose to hear from us in this way, you’ll receive behind the scenes news, updates about our animals, general information about rehoming, volunteering and various ways you can support us, including fundraising and events.
You’re free to change or withdraw your contact preferences at any time, just let us know by contacting us by telephoning 07874945689 or emailing enquiries@roystonanimalwelfare.org
Legitimate Interest
This legal ground for processing means that organisations can process your personal information if they 1. have a genuine and legitimate reason for doing so and 2. That use does not harm any of your rights and interests as an individual.
This applies to individuals who have rehomed a dog or cat from us, we will use the information you provide us to provide you with aftercare services once you have rehomed an animal. On average a dog in the UK lives on average to the age of 16 years old and cats 17 years old. We think that you and the dog or cat you rehomed from us would like to remain in contact with us throughout their lifetime and we will therefore keep your personal information to allow for this.
We also ask for this information so that we can comply with the relevant legal requirements when rehoming an animal such as registering new owners’ details with microchip databases
If you have contacted us to give up your dog or cat for adoption, we will use the information you provide us to allow us to care for that animal and ultimately permanently rehome it.
If you are a financial supporter of RAW, by becoming a member, joining Rawry 200, sponsoring a dog or donating to us we will ask for information that enables us to administer your donation. This will normally include information such as your name, contact details such as address, email or telephone number and your payment details and Gift Aid status.
If you have added Gift Aid to your donation to us we must record the fact that you are a UK taxpayer and we have to maintain a record of the amount of Gift Aid we have claimed. For example, if you donate to us, we’ll keep your financial information for up to seven years after your last interaction with us.
All personal or financial information collected by Royston Animal Welfare is kept securely and only used by RAW, except for the relevant legal requirements when rehoming an animal such as registering new owners detail with microchip databases.
